The quiet village of Eskdale lies along the valley floor of the River Esk, surrounded by Lakeland fells including Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain. Bobbin Mill holiday cottage is on one of two working farms nestling in the Miterdale valley which, branching off from lower Eskdale, follows the river Mite to its source below Burnmoor tarn.

Miterdale, one of the prettiest and least visited valleys in the Lake District, is Arthur Ransome’s ‘hidden valley’ and has magnificent views of Sca Fell from its upper reaches.

Eskdale is also lovely valley and has five pubs, two churches and a village shop. The nearest pub to Bobbin Mill is the Bower House inn and it will take you about twenty minutes to walk there along quiet roads. The shop is in the centre of the village, a half hour walk away.

The cottage is in fine order throughout, offering accommodation for up to five people, although we have a lot of couples who come to visit.

There are many walks from the front door of Bobbin Mill holiday cottage – along the valley bottom which is fairly flat, or up into the fells and mountains. A favourite walk of ours is over the fells to drop down into the neighbouring Wasdale valley which has the Wasdale Head Inn at the end of the walk. Wasdale is a valley of extremes with England’s highest mountain (Scafell), smallest church (St Olaf’s), deepest lake (Wastwater) and biggest liar (held annually at the Santon Bridge Inn).
