The interior of the cottage has been tastefully modernised whilst retaining typical Lakeland features such as oak beams, an open fireplace, cupboards set deep into the thick granite walls and flagstone floors in the kitchen and dairy.

Next to this is the kitchen, equipped with a fridge, gas oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, hifi system and filter coffee machine. And, opposite the kitchen, the old dairy, with a fridge freezer, tumble dryer, iron and plenty of space to dry out wet walking boots and clothes.

Upstairs are four bedrooms, each with a washbasin, wardrobe and dressing table, except the smaller single room which has a clothes stand instead of a wardrobe. Bedroom One has twin beds, Bedroom Two has a double bed and Bedroom Three has three single beds. They all have window seats and wonderful views over sheep grazing in the fields against a backdrop of the fells. Bedroom Four has a single bed and looks over the cottage's secluded garden.

The spacious bathroom has a WC, sink and bath.

Apart from the kitchen and dairy, the cottage is carpeted throughout and has central heating.

The sheltered garden at Hollin Head

Behind the cottage is a large walled garden with mature trees and flowerbeds. There's a lawn for children to play on, a patio with garden furniture and an outside lavatory. The garden has magnificent views of the fells and is completely private. In fact the views from all the windows in the cottage are fabulous.

  • Please note that Hollin Head cottage is no-smoking
  • Eskdale now has an 'orange' mast for mobile reception.
  • Due to the proximity of farm animals, it is with regret that we cannot allow fireworks at Hollin Head.

Hollin Head is one of the Lake District cottages let by Sally Fielding. Sally has cottages across the Lake District but as she grew up in Eskdale she has many in this beautiful valley and the neighbouring valley of Wasdale. This area of the Lake District is quieter than some of the others and this allows you to experience the true peace and tranquillity of this most wonderful part of the country.
Holiday cottages in the Lake District give great flexibility and a home away from home. You can see all of Sally’s cottages in Eskdale and a guide to the area by following the link.
There are plenty of great local pubs in the Western Lake District with lots of local produce on offer, there are also lots of farm shops which are great when you are self catering. Lake District fells are a great place for dogs and we have many pet friendly cottages.
